The Quran serves as a profound source of knowledge, with verses that touch upon various aspects of the natural world, including the field of geology. The Quranic verses reference the Earth’s structure, mountains, and the processes that shape the land, inviting believers to reflect upon the signs of Allah's creation. For instance, in Surah An-Naba (78:6-7), Allah states, "Have We not made the Earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?" This metaphorical description highlights the stability provided by mountains, a concept echoed in modern geological understanding.

Furthermore, Surah Al-Ghashiyah (88:20) mentions, "And at the Earth, how it is spread out?" This verse encourages exploration into the Earth's formation and the layers beneath its surface, aligning with contemporary geological studies that reveal the Earth's crust, mantle, and core. The Quran not only addresses the physical aspects but also the spiritual significance of the Earth’s features as signs of Allah’s power.

Islamic scholars such as Ibn Kathir have elaborated on these verses, suggesting that the Earth’s geological features are reminders of Allah's might and serve as a basis for the tawheed (Oneness of Allah). In his commentary, Ibn Kathir emphasizes that observing these natural wonders can lead to a greater appreciation of the Creator's magnificence.

Practically, engaging with the Quran in the context of geology can enhance one's understanding of the Earth and inspire environmental stewardship. Muslims are encouraged to study the natural sciences, as knowledge leads to a greater understanding of Allah's creation, which is a form of worship in itself. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim" (Sunan Ibn Majah, 224). Therefore, integrating Quranic teachings with scientific exploration can foster a holistic appreciation of both faith and the natural world.
